Based on data from ASPs, the number of men who perform plastic surgery procedures increased by two percent during 2010 rather than 2009. The data also showed an increase 14 percent for facial toning procedure (facelift) and 7 percent for the liposuction procedure.
Not only that. The data also indicate a new trend in plastic surgery, in which men aged 40-54 are 'major players' cosmetic surgery procedure, followed by men aged 55 and above.
"More than ever, the generation of men is a little nervous about the competition with men who were younger," said Phillip Haeck ASPs president as quoted by the Straits Times on Monday (3/21/2011).
"I've never seen anything like this before. Men who lose their jobs and find new jobs really think they should do something to look younger in order to compete,"said Haeck.
Most popular procedure among men was nose surgery (rhinoplasty), with a total of 63,585 procedures during 2010. Next is the eyelid surgery (31,476), liposuction (23,899), a reduction in breast size (18,280) and hair transplants (13,217).
